Coming Home to Ourselves : A Woman's Journey to Wholeness
Published in Paperback by Heart to Heart Productions (August, 1999)
Author: Jan Forrest
Average review score:

easy to read guide to self healing and self worth
Coming Home to Ourselves should be required reading for any woman who is in crisis. It provides an excellent sense of well-being and is the first step to recovery.

The book offers 168 pages of nurturing and insight. It provides more healing than a warm bath,a manicure and a call to your best friend.

Coming Home to Ourselves is a must read for any woman.

A heart-felt 'how-to' journaling book for women.
Jan Forrest's recent book, Coming Home to Ourselves: A Woman's Journey to Wholeness has helped me to begin again with a journey I began twenty years ago. No matter where a woman is on her own "spiritual journey," this book can help to remotivate and reinspire setting out again on the path that WILL lead to wholeness. Jan Forrest speaks with the authority of someone who's learned from past experiences and wants to share what she's learned with others walking a similar path. Her voice has integrity and purpose as well as calm assurance that all IS well within, we just need to be quiet enough to connect with ourselves, our authentic selves. I would recommend Coming Home to Ourselves: A Woman's Journey to Wholeness, to any woman who wants to do just that, reclaim the pieces of her life and use them to create a beautiful collage of who she is as a "whole person" and what she hopes for in the depth of her heart and soul.

Provides the path to return to yourself.
If you are the type of person whose needs always get shoved to the back of the line, Coming Home to Ourselves will put you back on the track to self-care. The author encourages you to use ritual and writing to reconnect with the self and tap into the wellspring of wisdom hidden there. I like the message of this book so well I now use it in my own workshops.

Highly recommended!

Awakening the Spirit Within
Jan Forrest did it again! I picked up a copy of Awakening the Spirit Within and did not put it down until I had read each and every page. Page by page, Jan reflects on issues that touch us all and guides us to find our own spirits to deal with each new day. Jan opens the readers eyes and shows them his/her own wings as they learn to fly. Prolific and moving, each page is a lesson on its own, while the book as a whole is a "must have" guide for everyone - male or female!

Self Discovery
Jan Forrest's new book, "Awakening the Spirit Within," is an experience of small but exquisite epiphanies of one's self. Every page will help you unravel your own mysery and guide you to a more balanced spiritual self.

A Lifetime Companion
Jan Forrest's latest book, Awakening the Spirit Within is a keepsake treasure that can also be called a lifetime companion. This is because her wisdom and spiritual insights are timeless and universal. Her gentle suggestions for connecting with Spirit through everyday life are empowering to all who feel the tug of Spirit but don't know how to respond. Read it from front to back in one sitting or page by page as the mood strikes. Either way, Jan's words are soothing and comforting, inspiring and affirming. The index in the back is especially helpful for specific needs. If you think you are too busy to take time for spiritual sustenance, this book is for you. One minute is all it takes to read one page and be blessed by a shift in perception about some important aspect of your spiritual nature. Ahhhhh!

Isis Lives
And this book can help you meet her (or just learn A LOT about her)! As Isis knew both joy and sorrow, she is a goddess that knows love and compassion, and has historically been known as one of the very few deities able to change fate. This book is filled with detailed accounts of her myths, her history, and her followers from all around the world. It also has many Isis-based rituals and meditation that can help you develop a deep relationship with her.

An Excellent Book Even if You're Not an Isiac
I used this book extensively to do some research for a book I'm writing, and it was very useful and inspiring to those ends.

But it's not really meant for people like me. It really is a lovely book for worshippers of the Isiac faith, and is aimed at becoming a practitioner. In a way, it is like an Isiac bible, with stories and versus, and educational information. It's lovely both in layout and content, and is unapologetic in its spirituality.

This book is a must for those who love Isis
ISIS MAGIC

She also describes how Isis became a prominent Goddess in the ancient world. She has some info on Nepthys, Osiris, Anubis, Set, Ra, Horus in this book as well. She has two parts to this book one is the information on Isis the second part is the rituals that allow you to dedicate yourseld to Isis step by step. The second part you start out as the votary of Isis, the next step is becomming the handmaiden or servent of Isis, when you are ready you become the magician of Isis, then you become the prophet/ess of Isis. Even if you have been her priest/ess of Isis for a long time or a priest/ Goddess there is nothing wrong with starting the rituals as a votary (where there is humility there is no room for the ego) The rituals in this book are lovely. The Goddess Isis is alieve in this book! For those of you who are witches/magicians you may enjoy th! is book, for those who are interested in learning about Isis or the Egyptian path than this is a great selection. For those who want to have more contact with the Goddess and the feminine power of the universe than this is a great book for you. The autho!r's love for Isis really shows by her dedication to this huge 624 page book. This book is one you probably will not be lending out at all! M. The Soul in the Computer: The Story of a Corporate Revolutionary

formlas for a better world
Recently a doctor friend who is contemplating a career change as a researcher for a drug company was discussing his dilemma with me. The reason for the change is that he's bored with the repetitive nature of his work and wants to be on the leading edge in socially active work. How could he do this in a corporation? he was asking me. "Boy have I got the book for you!" I said, and told him about Barbara Waugh.
This book is one of the top ten on my list of tools for building a new and better civilization. Corporations run the world today, but in the light of the Enron fiasco, many of us are asking, "Are they leading us all towards Doomsday like a bunch of lemmings?"
No one has a more reassuring answer for that question than Barbara Waugh. Yes, corporations would be able to save the world, not destroy it, if they were in the hands of people like her. Adapting the ideology of capitalism to the demands of a world struggling for survival may seem like a daunting task, but the tools are all there. Combine this book with Jack Stack's The Great Game of Business, David McClelland's Achievement Motivation and The Achieving Society, D. O. Hebb's The Organization of Behavior, Buckminster Fuller's Critical Path, a few wise words of advice from the Grameen Bank (and perhaps one or two other choice items) and you've got a sure fire formula not just for saving the world, but for building a world wide Utopia in the next twenty years. And I don't think I could assert all this so positively if Barbara Waugh's book hadn't been published, because it takes its place alongside Bernard Shaw's The Revolutionist's Handbook in a list of highly readable books for revolutionaries. The difference is that Shaw's ideas have had their day, whereas Barbara Waugh can take you where we all need to be going right now. Thanks to her, the train is leaving on track 5 for.....
Chock full of good ideas, spine-tingling anecdotes and the creative adventure of Jack the Giant Killer, Barbara Waugh's odyssey (that may well be the first major new idea about world conquest since Caesar's Gallic Wars) will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what false god the next dropped ball will smash into on its rebound.
I loved the book, and, unless you're deep-down happy and satisfied with things in the corporate world being just the way they are right this minute, you will too.

The art of possibility
Barbara Waugh is a remarkable woman and I am delighted that she took the time to write her story as a visionary, change management expert, and woman with heart, so we can all learn from her journey. Her tale is unforgettable and reminds us all to dare to dream and commit to making that idea a reality. As an activist, Barbara has leveraged her creativity in her career at HP in innovative ways and learned the art of gathering partcipation and the support from her colleagues and the entire organization. This book should be required reading in every business and social work graduate program. Bravo!

Barbara is the real thing, and her spirit is in this book!
Barbara is an amazing person--a "connector" in the sense of the Tipping Point--and someone who has made remarkable things happen in the world of very large corporations. This book is well written, direct, inspiring, and challenging. And the stories are believable.
Joel Birnbaum is a scientist's scientist, head of IBM research, head of HP research, something of a rennaissance man--and a very nice, approachable, supportive person. This book is a testiment to the humanity with which some technologists approach their work. HP Labs did not set out to be only the best corporate lab in the world--but to be "the best lab FOR the world." That is a higher standard than most aim for.

Funniest book of the cold war era
I first read this book about 20 years ago and though it would make a great movie. I'm sure the Russians would enjoy it too.

If you love to laugh you wont be sorry you chose this one!
A hilarious story suitable for young teens of either sex and those who are still young at heart. A cold war romance set on an island off the coast of England. Also a possible world record winner for 'longest book title in the world'. I enjoyed it immensly when it was first published and am now looking for a copy to give to my boys. (after I've read it again.)

Who would've known I'd go looking for that island??
In a VERY small town, Culdesac, Idaho, a book mobile would travel to us once a week. There I found this little treasure one summer so many years ago, I can't remember! I never forgot the title, or laughing out loud! So here I am, married to someone from the region, enjoying our own type of island life there now and then, and remembering the title. Looking for a copy for my 13 year old son, who is in Greece as I write on a study tour. This book is right up his alley, and along the lines of his humor! Would love to share it with him if I could get my hands on a copy. Anyone willing to part with one can email me if Amazon can't find it!

A Short Course in Kindness: A Little Book on the Importance of Love and the Relative Unimportance of Just About Everything Else

KINDNESS ROCKS!!!
I have reread this book 3 times, and each time I find that the stories make a difference in my day. I am beginning to use it as a daily reminder that my actions and kindness waterfall to anyone I encounter, whether it be in person, on the telephone, or even in my e-mails.

I am so very grateful that Margot Silk Forrest realized that our world is in desperate need of kindness. Her book is perfectly written, contains wonderful stories, and I hope she writes Volume 2!!

Get this book...and keep several copies handy to share with others!!! Let's ALL help her change the world!!!!

Good Things Do Come in Small Packages!
What the world needs now...is a short course in kindness. I loved this book. The stories made me both laugh and cry in recognition. I felt changed somehow, softer and kinder. But mostly, this short course in kindness reminded me that the heart is indeed a muscle that feels a lot better when stretched.

Antidote for a weary world...
...I read it cover to cover. I loved it. It's well-crafted and real, and has some new ideas worth considering. It opened my heart and made me feel lighter about life, which was no small task. I got a kick out of the "call to arms" in the last chapter. I'm giving copies to colleagues, friends and family. This one's a gem.

The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer

I'm a Marathoner
This is the first review I've ever written on Amazon. This book made such a difference in my life, I had to comment on it. Six months ago I decided I needed to do something to get in better shape. I was in decent shape, I played raquet ball a few times a week, but I couldn't run more than a mile and really didn't have any interest in doing so. I came across the book title on Amazon and decided to check it out. I read the book while on vacation and decided I was going to run a marathon. I did the pre-training for a week and then began the program. Then the most important part, I started telling friends and family I was going to run a marathon.

I finished my first marathon yesterday( 10/28/01) in Mystic, Connecticut, in four hours and 51 minutes. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I learned that the marathon was the reward and the training was the goal. During my training I read a number of marathon books, they all had helpful advice, but none were as important as this book. It was a guide, a reference and logbook. Its no longer just a book, its a memoir of the journey to my first marathon!

This book made me a Believer!
Yesterday 10/15/00, I ran and finished my first marathon! I purchased this book back in May/June, read through it that month, chose my marathon, and started the program. I did exactly what the authors said and as an extra helper--I even signed up for a marathon class (but I did not use the class' 6-day weekly training schedule). It turned out, I really didn't need the marathon class, the book alone was enough! I used the 4-day weekly schedule and the mental imagery exercises and it worked! I even missed a few days of training, which I thought might have hindered my efforts during the marathon but my longest run was 18 miles and as they write in the book, "if you can run 18 miles, you can run 26!" Being a first-timer, I set no time goals, my only goal was to finish--(one tip I did take from the class was to do the marathon 5 miles at a time), and I finished my marathon in 5:18. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE! I recommend this book to anyone who has an inkling of a thought that they might want to run a marathon--get this book and get started! YOU CAN DO IT! "LESS THAN 1% OF THE POPULATION EVER ATTEMPTS A MARATHON." JOIN OUR 1% MARATHON FAMILY!

If you buy it, You will run!
I ran a few miles several times a week before I bought this book but really didn't think my knees or lungs could go much farther than about six miles. I had been talking about running a half-marathon for years. Finally I was talking to a runner who said if I was serious about it I should buy a book and start training. So I upped my goal to a full marathon, bought this book, read it, followed it, and 16 weeks later I finished a marathon. Other than a commitment to do it, it was almost that simple. The book's approach to staying healthy, staying positive, and finishing the marathon was right on the money. As I trained alone, the stories by other runners really helped. Most amazing was the timing of advice. Often I would get off track or start to set unrealistic goals and about that time, the book would get me back focused on my goal - stay healthy, stay positive, finish. The four day per week approach is also a big plus. With my travel schedule I don't think I could have stuck to a more aggressive schedule. If you follow the plan, four days a week is all you need. Amaze your friends. Commit to this and do it.

The Simple-Minded Manager: Cutting Through Your Work-Life Chaos
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Intercare21st Publishing (18 July, 2000)
Authors: Forrest C. Greenslade, Forrest C. Greenslade, Kristin Needham, and Kathryn E. Greenslade
Average review score:

Practical Guidance Gained From Practical Experience
In the spirit of "The One Minute Manager", this book provides practical hands-on guidance for dealing with real issues. Although rooted in such grand concepts as Integrity, Ethics, Honesty and Principle it is a practical book. In fact, it is because of this that it is a practical and useful book for day-to-day-manangement of work and life.

It's About Simple!
Dr. Greenslade offers helpful hints in basic management. In a world of high tech, and numerous books available on "how to manage" properly, we often overlook the "simple": -management is relationships- with your subordinates, your colleagues and your friends. Greenslade helps marry (manage) your personal and business life, to survive the chaos at work and focus on common ground and objectives; it is garnered from his own extensive management experiences in various biomedical industries. It also teaches you to care for yourself, and others. It reflects his own experiences in past "management chaos" in an honest and forthright manner. Utilizing those experiences, allowed him to "seize his own day" and pass on to others ways to "simplify, simplify, simplify" management. A valuable tool in the continuous quest to "manage" in a way that people and businesses can "grow together".

successful simple minded approach for a complex world
The clarity, brevity and sincerity of the author shines through with advice which can be life altering to the serious reader.

Josey Wales: Two Westerns: Gone to Texas/the Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales
Published in Paperback by University of New Mexico Press (November, 1989)
Authors: Forrest Carter and Lawrence Clayton
Average review score:

2nd Greatest Western
I'd rank this one right below Owen Wister's The Virginian on my own list of all-time greatest westerns. If I'd read this book two years ago my son would've been named Josey Wales Lambert. Every Southerner, no, every American should read it, digest it, and live by the same code. Yeeeha!

The book and movie
"The outlaw Josey Wales" the movie is my favorite western movie. I had not read the book until recently, and found the book as good as the movie. In fact I viewed the movie after reading each chapter and they are almost exactly the same. This story is a story of what our west was like after the civil war. It is a fun and easy read, and you will dread the story being over. A great gift would be the book and the movie for your Western loving friend

Western with a Different Slant on Post Civil War Times
This book tells two consecutive stories about Josey Wales that take place right after the War for Southern Independence, a period of time about which I did not have a lot of previous information. The first is a story about individualism and government abuse of those individual who don't fit the mold or have no use for the "services" that a government longs to provide. The second is more of a pure western and a vengence tale after some of Josey's friends are murdered. Although he'll kill a man in a second if he's crossed, you can't help but admire his character and courage. I've lent this book to three of my friends and they all tell me that the book was great. Overall, a very enjoyable read, expecially if you're not a big government lover.

A Chosen Faith : An Introduction to Unitarian Universalism
Published in Paperback by Beacon Press (June, 1998)
Author: John A. Buehrens
Average review score:

Building blocks of a little-known faith
I have been attending a Unitarian Universalist church for about a year. I was drawn to the church because of its openness. Unfortunately, the Unitarians are so fearful of evangelism that they almost refrain from giving newcomers any information about their faith in great detail. This book scratched the surface and then some. "A Chosen Faith" explains that two religious movements joined to created what is now the Unitarian Universalist movement. Now that I've read the book, I understand why Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, Pagans, Atheists and Agnostics all come together in UU fellowships. But more than that, the book attempts to explain what kind of theology can support such diversity under one tent. UUs have, I believe, a lot to say about how religious pluralism can be healthy and positive for our culture.

This book was excellent
Out of Recommendation from a friend I bought this incredible book and surprisingly, I proceeded to enjoy the openmindedness this religion has to offer. A Chosen Faith has shown me a whole new perspective on the Unitarian Religion, and although I was raised under a Catholic background. This incredible book has changed my views on life emphasizes equal respect towards people of all religions and cultures. The book has taught me the virtues of Unitarianism, and I am now proud to say that it has changed my life. This book is a must read for anyone interested in a religion/philosophy in which you are free to question the soul, choose your own morals and experience openminded love towards one another. 5 stars

A Great Place to Start
This book is a wonderful introduction to Unitarian Universalism. It is easy to read and explains well a religion that many people have a difficult time describing. After having read this book it is always the first book that I reccommend to persons who have have questions about Unitarian Universalism.
